How to Draw an Armadillo
- Head outline.
Begin by outline the shape of the armadillo’s head. Draw the top of the head using a curved line, then depict the armadillo’s long snout. Also in the first step you need to add the shape of the eye as in the example.
- Draw the ear.
Sketch the animal’s leaf-shaped ear directly above the head. Extend two curved lines from the head, then connect them, making a pointed ear shape. In addition to the ear, add the details of the animal’s face. Add a curved line above the eye, then draw the pupil and nostril.
- Detail the ears.
Following the example from the step, detail the armadillo’s first ear, and then depict the second ear, which is visually located behind the first ear.
- Draw the armor.
Extend from the top and bottom of the head curved lines that will form the armadillo’s armor. Then draw a third similar curved line to complete the sketching of the first part of the shell. At the end, add small details to the shell.
- Draw the back.
Depict the armadillo’s back. The shape of the back of the armor looks like half a bean. Finally, finish detailing the armor by adding texture.
- Add armor details.
Draw armored bands on the armadillo’s back. Add these shell bands using zigzag lines. Real armadillos have about 8 or 9 such bands, but we have an easy cartoonish pattern, so there are much fewer of these lines.
- Draw the legs.
Using curved lines to depict the legs of the armadillo. Then draw the feet with pointed claws as shown in the example.
- Draw the tail.
Using two long, curved lines draw the armadillo’s tail. The tail should be pointed and turned up. At the end, depict short lines on the tail, as in the example.
- Color your armored animal.
We colored our cartoon armadillo brown using two shades. You can use other shades to color your good looking armadillo art project.
