How to Draw a Lion
- Shape the face.
Start by drawing the outline of the lion’s face. Also draw the outlines of the eyes and nose.
- Add details.
Detail the lion’s face by adding lines for the muzzle and mouth.
- Draw the head.
To draw the head, you need to depict the lion’s fur around the head as in the example.
- Draw the mane.
Sketch out the bulk of the lion’s mane using zigzag and pointed lines. This step also shows how to draw lion ears.
- Add the lion’s torso.
Extend horizontal lines from the head and form the large torso of the lion.
- Draw the legs.
Draw the front limbs of the lion as well as the hind leg.
- Draw paws.
On the lion’s feet add lines for the paws. Also draw the back far leg.
- Depict the lion’s belly.
Using a curved line draw the belly of the lion. This line follows the line of the animal’s body.
- Draw the tail.
Use two parallel curved lines to depict the lion’s tail. Sketch the tip of the tail rounded or pointed.
- Color your artwork.
Lions are usually yellowish or sandy. Color your lion using the colors you feel are right for your drawing. A lion’s mane is frequently brown or has a darker shade of fur color.
