A little about fish. Fish are water-dwelling, gill-breathing vertebrates. They live in salt and fresh waters, are found in alpine lakes and the deepest oceanic depressions. The diversity of these aquatic animals is amazing.
Most fish have a streamlined body shape. Naturally, because of such a body, the fish are the best swimmers. The body consists of a head, trunk, and tail. In bony fish, the head is closed on the sides with gill covers that protect the gills and ensure the movement of water in the gill cavity.
The body is covered with skin with scales. In some species, scales are partially or completely absent. The main function of the scales is the mechanical protection of the body. The skin is covered with mucus, which has antibacterial and antifungal properties. The fish is very difficult to hold in your hands because of this, they are very slippery.

How to Draw a Fish
- Draw the body.
Begin by drawing the shape of the fish’s body. It’s very simple, because you need to depict two curved parallel lines. Also draw the shape of the eye as shown.
- Add head details.
Draw the vertical curved line for the gills of the fish. Also draw the mouth and pupil of the fish, as in the example.
- Draw scales.
Now you need to detail and texture the body of the fish by drawing the scales.
- Draw the fin.
To draw the fin, extend one curved line, then draw the rest of the fin using a wavy line.
- Add the tail.
Draw two mirror shapes for the shape of the tail. In a cartoon fish, the tail consists of two identical parts.
- Draw the pelvic fins.
The last elements in drawing the fish will be the pelvic fins.

Color your fish drawing in whatever color you feel is right for the fish. We shaded our fish in gray-blue shades.
